Route 66 Diary - Day 03 - Las Vegas to Kingman Arizona

Today's mileage should have been 100 miles - we drove about double that

In order to get back onto Route66 we went south through the Mojave Valley down to Needles, California, and then headed East towards Kingman.

We probably made a meal of this stage of the journey driving back on ourselves in order to get back to Route 66, but once back on track, the driving was on long straight desert roads.

After the glitz and kitsch of Vegas, we had a swift reminder of rural southwest America - the land is scrubby, sandy desert, rising up into the mountains as we left Nevada and crossed into Arizona.

We stopped at dusk in a town that felt like an abandoned cowboy town - a donkey wandering in the street and a couple of guys in Stetsons drinking beer by a caravan trailer turned into a bar.

Finally we rolled into sleepy Kingman Arizona as it was getting dark.
