The last straw before leaving Branson today was trying to get brunch after the show. The tacky retro diner where we sat down had singing waitresses, that screeched down the Microphone, whilst we were trying to order.
Time to leave.
Then we doubled back on ourselves to go and retrace a section of route 66 that we had missed the day before. After travelling the small section of 66 that goes through Kansas, we turned around and headed onwards to Springfield, Missouri.
The Simpsons Creator Matt Groening once told Smithsonian magazine:
"I figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S……
I thought, `This will be cool; everyone will think it's their Springfield.'… And they do"
And when we looked out of the window at Springfield, Missouri, it certainly looked like a scene from the series, lots of little houses in rows stretching away from the Highway.
