Route 66 Diary - Day 12 - Cuba MO to Springfield IL – via St Louis

Distance: 235 miles

From Cuba, we headed to St Louis. We'd been warned that St Louis was not a good place to visit, on account of it being racially segregated and having some extremely poor areas.

However, when we arrived, we found it to be a great city, full of history and life.

We had a tour of the city, and stopped off at the famous Blueberry Hill bar and music venue. Opposite Blueberry Hill is a Statue of the late great Chuck Berry.

Berry was still performing at the venue once a month, right up until 2014 - when he was 87 years old, 60 years after his first big break in the music business.

After visiting the famous St Louis Arch by the Mississippi river, it was time to move on to the next town for the evening – Springfield, Illinois.
